About Jacleen Charbonneau, LMHC
I am a Massachusetts - based mental health therapist (LMHC) who provides evidence-based outpatient mental health therapy for OCD, anxiety, and depression in the state of Massachusetts, and a graduate and undergraduate adjunct professor in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Assumption University, where I teach on a part-time basis every semester.
In therapy, I primarily specialize in working with young adults, mothers, and professionals in helper roles who are dealing with OCD, anxiety, depression, skin picking/hair pulling, life adjustment-related stress, social anxiety, and other anxiety-based symptoms. I provide therapy services through a therapeutic, relationship-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework. CBT involves evidence-based interventions shown to be effective for many mental health diagnoses. I primarily offer strategies such as Cognitive Restructuring, Problem Solving, and Behavioral Activation for anxiety and depression, in addition to Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) for OCD. Some clients find comfort in knowing that I can offer a Christian lens to treatment, if desired by the client.
I graduated with distinction in graduate school at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts, which is a program entirely dedicated to training students through the CBT framework. Assumption University is also a home to the Institute of Cognitive Studies of Aaron T. Beck, one of the founders of CBT, where I have attended additional continuing education trainings. During and after my time at Assumption University, I also worked alongside researchers at Boston University and Assumption University as a research fellow to assist in clinical research related to mental health within family systems.
My field experience includes nine years of clinical service at both residential and outpatient settings throughout Massachusetts, working with a variety of populations. It was when I was about to transition into a Clinical Director role for a residential program that I realized my true passion for working with clients in private practice, which led me to dedicate my work to this setting primarily.
Ultimately, I strive for my sessions to be a nonjudgmental safe space to provide the emotional support and professional guidance that clients seek. With me, the pressure to “be a certain way” is off. I prioritize compassion, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. My ultimate goal is to help clients work effectively to reduce their symptoms so that they can enjoy their daily lives and relationships.
